Pale Rider We traveled to the Big Easy, New Orleans, to photograph the wedding festivities for Elizabeth & Dickson. Although they live in New York, NY, Elizabeth & Dickson wanted to be married in New Orleans, where Elizabeth grew up. New Orleans was buzzing with activity, since Jazz Fast was going on the same weekend.
After checking in to the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street, the wedding’s HQ hotel, I ventured out on Friday afternoon only to get caught in the biggest rainstorm to hit NOLA since Katrina! Almost 4 inches of rain fell in just a few hours. Thankfully, the clouds parted in time for the rehearsal dinner - a North Carolina BBQ, complete with a bluegrass band, at the Benachi House
.
After getting married at Sacred Heart, Elizabeth & Dickson let me hitch a ride with them in the vintage Rolls Royce (and I got some great photos!) that delivered them to the luncheon hosted by Elizabeth’s parents at the famous restaurant, Arnauds, where guests were entertained by a New Orleans jazz band.
After a few hours rest in the afternoon, all the guests met Elizabeth & Dickson in the lobby of the Royal Sonesta to walk over to the black tie reception. The guests did walk, but parade-style in a “second line” parade (a traditional New Orleans jazz parade) behind a full jazz marching band – complete with police escort. Everyone had a great time watching Elizabeth & Dickson being cheered on by French Quarter onlookers.
It was just a short walk to the reception at The Cabildo
, home of the Louisiana State History Museum and where the Louisiana Purchase was signed. The Cabildo, located on Jackson Square, is a beautiful place for a reception. Great food, music, dancing…Topped off by Elizabeth & Dickson handing out to-go bags of beignets from the French Market at the end of the night.
Those who know Elizabeth will not be surprised that not a single detail was overlooked! The folks at Unique Weddings in New Orleans
did a great job coordinating the weekend’s festivities.
